Clip-On™ balcony with full-height tie rod transfers loads diagonally, reducing anchor size and improving façade load efficiency.
The full height tie rod system transfers loads from the outer edge of the balcony back to the building at a diagonal angle. This method is highly efficient, requiring a smaller penetration or surface area through the façade. The full height tie rod detail is best used when there is insufficient wall fixing strength to support the balcony weight, as it provides direct load transfer to the slab edge above, enhancing structural capacity.
This system was successfully implemented at Vienna House in Canada and at Beaumont and Richmond House in Southend, UK, as part of a project that converted an office building into residential units.
