Snow Hill Wharf, Birmingham

History

Situated in a quiet suburb of Newtown along the Digbeth Branch Canal, Snow Hill Wharf is a new development by St Joseph, showcasing a series of contemporary apartments, all within half a mile of the booming Colmore business district. Sapphire was pleased to lend its support, manufacture, and supply to over 300 balconies across this wonderful and stylish new development in the heart of Birmingham.

Streamlined by Innovation, Delivered by Sapphire

When tasked with manufacturing and supplying the balconies at Snow Hill Wharf for St. Joseph, Berkeley’s then-newly launched Birmingham-focused division, we presented them with an approach that had been streamlined by collaboration.

Sapphire and Berkeley have historically worked together before, though Snow Hill Wharf was the first collaboration between their new St Joseph division. Snow Hill Wharf’s design placed a strong emphasis on aesthetic excellence, with glass-balustraded and vertical bar-balustraded balconies being a standout feature of the design.

One of the primary constraints facing St Joseph was the lack of on-site storage, which meant the balconies needed to be installed directly from the delivery lorry. This logistical constraint could have become a bottleneck, delaying the project or impacting its quality.

Thanks to our offsite manufacturing and storage, we were able to provide St Joseph with a simple and elegant solution. By manufacturing the balconies in a controlled environment, we ensured their quality met the exacting standards required while minimising disruption on-site. The offsite approach also enabled delivery at the point the balconies were needed, so the balconies could be installed seamlessly without the need for storage space at the construction site.

This streamlined approach was further bolstered by our historic collaboration with Berkeley. The trust and shared understanding built over years of working together allowed us to coordinate effectively with their St. Joseph team, ensuring smooth communication and problem-solving at every stage.
