Clip-On™ balcony with mid-height tie rods offers discreet triangulated support, ideal for precast facades needing visual continuity.
Like the full height version, the mid height tie rod system also triangulates forces from the balcony back to the building. The key difference lies in the method of support and its visual impact. While the full height tie rod connects to the slab edge above, supporting both the balcony and the one below, the mid height version connects at an intermediate point.
This configuration results in a less visually prominent solution, with forces transferred to the wall or an internal wind post. It is particularly effective when used with precast wall panels. The mid height tie rod detail is best suited for situations where there is sufficient wall fixing strength to support the balcony weight, allowing for a clean and efficient design.
The mid height Clip-On tie rod system maintains structural efficiency while offering a more discreet appearance. This approach was successfully implemented at Transport House in Dagenham, a project delivered by Hollybrook.
