Southall Waterside Phase A

Challenge

Southall Waterside is a 45ha site siting alongside the Great Western Railway, in the London borough of Ealing. This multi-phase scheme is one of London’s largest regenerations projects and will deliver over 3,500 homes to the borough. Simplicity for contractors and speed of install were the two biggest challenges to the client.

Solution

Using Sapphires anchors which come pre-assembled with templates to assist installation, the contractors at Southall Waterside were able to cast in the anchors with simplicity and could be sure that the anchors were aligned due to the template provided. Due to the initial phases of this scheme being low-rise, the benefit of having lightweight Sapphire balconies allowed the client to remove the tower crane and install balconies with mobile cranes, saving the additional costs of keeping the tower crane. The client was also able to increase the speed of install with the mobile cranes, allowing balconies to be installed rapidly.

Installation Process

Step 1: Sapphire anchors incorporating thermal breaks are cast-in to the slab, pre-fitted with 1-piece steel arms connected to anchor on the first blocks, 2-piece arms thereafter.

Step 2: Balcony Cassettes® are manufactured and assembled at Sapphires Winchester production facility.

Step 3: Balconies complete with balustrades, decking, soffits and fascias are delivered Right for installation.

Step 4: Using Sapphire’s innovative install equipment balconies were installed rapidly, with installers safely inside the apartments, and without need to install soffits afterwards.
