Major Housing Developers Embrace MMC
Key players in the UK construction industry are embracing the benefits of MMC with several announcements this year.
Barratts, Britain’s biggest housebuilder, announced it is aiming to deliver 20% of new homes through modern methods by the end of 2020. With a focus on offsite production and standardisation Barratts hope to drive down building costs and support its growth aims.
Wates are set to deliver the first modular council homes in partnership with Cardiff Council. The development is set to deliver affordable 600 homes around the city and is the first of its kind in Cardiff.
Berkeley Group are also embracing MMC with Berkeley Modular’s manufacturing facility set to become operational next year. The facility will produce up to 1000 volumetric modular homes per year fully complete with plumbing, electrics and internal fittings.
