DownloadBlairderry Road in Streatham, London was delivered by Oakwood Group and involved a range of challenges particularly concerning logistics given its busy city location.
Challenge
This project had limited access because it was situated on a tight road off the high street, making deliveries difficult. The shape of the building also meant some of the balconies and residential units had limited light access.
Solution
The logistical complications of the project location were overcome by carefully considering the delivery schedule in line with the programme. The offsite manufacture of our Glide-On™ Cassette® balconies meant all balconies were prefinished offsite in a controlled factory environment and then safely stored before delivery to site. This meant minimal onsite labour was required saving time, space and overcoming road access limitations.
To overcome the limited light exposure caused by the shape of the building clear laminate glass balustrades were chosen to allow as much light to reach the apartments as possible.
Installation process
Step 1: Cast in anchors were cast into the slab & incorporated thermal break connections offering superior rigidity to the balconies.
Step 2: Cassette® balconies were preassembled offsite, including the balustrades, decking & soffits.
Step 3: Cassette® balconies were transported with balconies ‘nested’ onto each pallet making transport both cost effective & safe. Balconies were pre-slung offsite ready for installation upon arrival at Blairderry Road.
Step 4: Once lifted into position, the Cassettes® simply Glide-On™ to the pre-erected support arms, before completing the simple mechanical fixings.
